Our founding forefathers may have believed in god, but that does not mean that they necessarily subscribed to the bible.

Remember, this country was founded by those who fled England because of religious persecution, which was based upon the bible. They did not want that to happen here, so they were quite clear that this country was not founded upon christianity.

Washington, Adams, Jefferson and Madison all wrote letters that were unequivocal in describing their intentions when this country was founded -- that it was not founded upon christianity. Thus, how could the bible have influenced the Constitution?

I would expect someone of your ilk to come up with a moronic twisted statement like this. Too bad for you...

We hold these truths to be (-self evident-)... sorry Jesus, freedom is universal. Thanks for encouraging it though!

Well duh! Our constitution was founded on the teachings of the bible. Why do you think that the president and in court, you swear on the Bible? Why do you that Bill Clinton was impeached? hello!

Where in the Constitution is Jesus mentioned? The garden of Eden? Or the Koran, the Torah, or the Path? Where in the Constitution does it say that embryos have rights? Where in the Constitution are the 10 Commandments mentioned? To be sure the Framers had religious influences but what is remarkable about the document is precisely how nonsectarian it is, and how deistic many of the Framers were in their personal lives. It's beauty is its secularism.

It would have influence either directly or indirectly because it is a written work that has been around a long long time.

Though the founding fathers were not all christians, it still would have had influence.

wow. that's a biggie. I believe that the writers of the constitution were devout men, and men of great faith. But, they were just men, with all the failings and temptations that face us all, in our lives.

Franklin was agnostic if not an athiest, as were many others. They followed the tenents that describe behavior necessary for living in society, but other than that, the writing of the Constitution had little influence from the Bible.

A lot of indirect influence of course. Western society itself is half built on Christianity, which itself is built upon the Bible. The concept that of equality of *all* people is a very Christian idea; it gained traction in Western society quite likely due to the connection.

It had to. How could wars have been justified, if gods not. They were believers ya know. For better or worse.
