it would be okay if that was the only price, but it also REQUIRES a 2 year contract.

It should be noted that it doesn't actually REQUIRE a contract. You can buy one at an Apple store, and upon activation you can enter a fake SSN# and use Pay as You Go... Additionally, almost all cell phone companies require a 2 year contract these days. And if the 1 year option is available, then the cost of phones skyrockets...
