Why should it be?

They can always go to the library.

Nobody should get anything for free really.

yeah , considering even Burger king has online only applications - we already have free internet at the libraries anyway though - albeit you have to wait a hell of a lot longer to use one in a poor neighborhood than a rich one. solution - poor people should search for jobs in the rich neighborhoods libraries- those computers never get used anyway

drizz, uhm check the logic here.

The library is not providing "free" internet service. They are funded by tax dollars.

Burger King is providing the service as a way to attract customers. I doubt you can sit there all day long and play online games without buying some food. In any event the cost is passed on to the consumer.

Let's pretend it was "free" for everyone, who pays for it?

It's not free for anyone. It won't be free for everyone. Someone has to pay for it. YOUR taxes.

Actually, we already pay for it. No mass media is free. Look at 'free' TV: Those commercial breaks (and endlessly stupid ads) you have to sit through is what pays for the programming. Look to the right of this comment. There is an ad over there. That pays for you to be able to access this site without having any money deducted from your banking account. So you 'pay' for it by having advertisers compensate the content providers on your behalf.

So, who should pay for the ones who can't afford it? Let me guess the productive members of society should pay, for the unproductive ones, right? These entitlements are getting downright insane! Would you like a cell phone to go with that free internet? Good Lord!

Most people who receive services are employed or seeking employment. The working poor are basically living in poverty, but make too much money to qualify for services. It's unfortunate that not everyone has as much as you do, and even more unfortunate that you people can't see how difficult it is for so many.
