It will influence him, we the uninformed and ignorant to the facts will never know how much any president has been influenced. But today there are no politicians who aren't accepting something from someone. In the stimulus package there are some pork so he did not keep his word he said no pork. It will ahppen again and again.

I was writing columns before the night of the election which said what I’d always said.

Although I could never have agreed with any of his ignorant racism, I do agree with something George Wallace said during the 1968 presidential campaign. Wallace stated that “there’s not a dime’s worth of difference between the Democrats and the Republicans.”

I don’t know if it’s considered spamming, but it isn’t intended that way. I’d like to link to a an article I wrote which summed up my opinion of American politics. The url is http://www.opednews.com/articles/opedne_michael__080414_stop_the_theatrics.htm

Right up until election night, I thought that all of the major candidates in 2008 would realize as Clinton did when he got into The White House that you can speak about bringing down the criminals on Wall Street and watching out for those of us on Main Street; you can talk about shutting Gitmo down and being diplomatic with troublesome leaders; you can talk about all of that during the campaign. But once you’re in, you take orders from us The Corporacracy. “We got you here and we’ll break you if you try to be a hero and turn your backs on us.”

So much is made of Obama’s raising money from lots of small donations. That’s not the whole story, you can look on line and see which corporations or what they call “special interest groups” donated large sums of money. He has organizations that he can feel he’s beholden to if he so chooses. My money is on their “convincing” him to give up the “savior” role.

Anyway, if you read the article, you’ll see that I wasn’t very confident that anyone would be “the president” other than in a ceremonial role. Nor has anyone really been what we’ve thought they’ve been for a long time.

Up until election night…His acceptance speech was magnificent, but I still believed that, African American or not, he will cave just like all of the others.

On election night, he repeated all of the things that he wants to be able to accomplish for the majority of Americans in The United States and ask those who have it to help

On election night, he repeated how no one should be denied education, but there should be some giving, either to your community or to the military. Yes, the government is here to “promote the general welfare”, as promised in The Preamble to The Constitution of the United States of America.

So, I’ve taken off my shoes and socks and put my feet in the water. The water’s really not comfortable yet, but I guess he’s convinced me to sit back, give him a reasonable amount of time, see what potential legislation he can convince Congress to work on, then, if passed, we’ll see how he administers it.

An example would be that he has plans, maybe very specific plans, to close Gitmo. Maybe he’ll give himself a generous time line. Like, by the year 2010, Gitmo will be detainee free and, after waiting a year to make sure that someone doesn’t appear for whom Gitmo would be perfect, we’ll begin plans to mothball the place.

He’s been a hard bird to read. Seems like he’s doing his best to include all sectors of The Democratic Party, his progressive base as well as the old, worn out, “moderate Democrats” who look so much like right of center Republicans on so many occasions.

I do have the slightest hope that he’ll go in the direction in which he said he was going to go and refuse to be told in which direction he should go.

Some if not most corporate influence will be out of Obamas control. Too many hands shook and money exchanged by those around the president to say corporate Americas influence will be minor.

Just like Obama, I'm sure some of it was.

It depends on the intelligence and awarness of the President to determan when he is getting taken for a ride. I trust Obamas judgment. He won't be perfect but he'll a damn good job.

Plus, not all of what happened is directly tied to Bush. However, his deregulation is what allowed for more underhanded deals to take place.

Honestly, I'm not like a lot of people, I don't think Bush is some kind of criminal. I think he was extremely gullible and way to confident. He earned most of the negative criticism given to him too. But he's not a criminal.

I learned along time ago, never to question someones intentions, only judgment and results. Bush has showed piss poor judgment and we have the results to show it.

Corporate America influences the policies of every administration. Idealistically Obama (or any President for that matter) would brush them off, but he likely won't be able to when they really put the pressure on. Sad.
