Yes it's called Hemp/ Industrial Hemp. You can Build with it, make fuel out of it, feed yourself and your lifestock with it,make paper out of it,make clothes out of it, everything.

Actually, the poll question I submitted is quite different from what BuzzDash edited this to. You can see the original poll at PESN.com. We define "free energy" as containing a wide array of possibilities, including solar, wind, geothermal, tide, on the conventional end, and magnet motors, zero point energy, cold fusion, on the non-conventional end of the spectrum.

The wording of our poll was very deliberate: "Will a portable 24/7 'free energy' device come before society crashes?" Note the key words "portable" and "24/7", which rule out solar, wind, geothermal, tide, and other conventional sources. That question is much more interesting than the one BuzzDash edited this down to.

The answers we provide to choose from:
- Yes
- Hopefully
- Probably not
- No, only for new society
- No such thing

We also posted the poll at the bottom of the pages at PESWiki.com, which features many such modalities, both conventional and non-conventional.

Ironically today, two stories emerged, both of which would suggest a "yes" answer to our question as well as the watered-down one posted here at BuzzDash.

Actually the sun is driven by nuclear fusion, a process which uses hydrogen as fuel, and this supply of hydrogen will run out in about 5 billion years.

It provides it, we can't harness it very effectively yet. Yes, it'll burn out in 5 billion years, but if we can put more effort into developing solar technology we'll be able to take better advantage of its power. When it does burn out, and assuming human kind is still around, we'll have other things to worry about than how to power a light bulb. I have taken a few solar courses over the years and interestingly, quite a few of the people working in the industry have degrees in astrophysics. They learned about solar tech in the space industry and got so enamored of it that they turned to studying and promoting it full time.
